23.4. 14:30	Scheduled downtime of important VOCE services on monday 27.4. the following machines and services will not be available: - ce2.egee.cesnet.cz (Computing Element) - ui1.egee.cesnet.cz (User Interface) - dpm1.egee.cesnet.cz (Storage Element) - lfc1.egee.cesnet.cz (file catalog) - myproxy1.egee.cesnet.cz (myproxy service) - skurut19.cesnet.cz (VOMS server for VOCE) It means that whole site prague_cesnet_lcg2 will not be available for computing and it will not be possible to obtain new proxy certificates for VOCE. 3.12.2008	EGEE User Forum The 4th EGEE User Forum will take place on 2-6 March 2009 in Catania, Sicily. The event is co-located with OGF25 and OGF-Europe's 2nd international event and will be hosted by INFN. The Program Committee invites abstracts for contributions in one of following general topics: * Scientific results obtained using grid technology * Planned or on-going scientific work using the grid * Experiences from application porting and deployment * Grid Services exploiting and extending gLite middleware (job management, data management, monitoring, workflows etc) * Programming environments * End-user environments and portal technologies * Emerging Technologies within the EGEE infrastructure (cloud, virtualization etc) Contributions may be offered either for oral presentation, posters or demonstrations. All submitted abstracts should follow the pre-defined template provided online from the User Forum web site at CERN's Indico system. Abstracts must be submitted using the "Submit a new abstract page" under the Call for Abstracts section. Prospective authors should read the "Author Instructions" section which provides important information regarding abstract submission. The replacement is lb2.egee.cesnet.cz which runs LB from gLite 3.1 If you use the server in your WMS/UI configurations please update it accordingly. 26.8.2008	Change of the user interface machine We have installed new machine with user interface (UI) service. The name of the machine is ui1.egee.cesnet.cz and it will replace old UI skurut4.cesnet.cz The main change is upgrade of the operating system to Scientific Linux 4.6 and gLite middleware version 3.1. 26.8.2008	prague_cesnet_lcg2 We have installed a new computing element (CE) that will replace currently used skurut17.cesnet.cz The name of the new CE is ce2.egee.cesnet.cz and the main change is the last version of gLite middleware (3.1). This version is more stable and offers better performance than version 3.0. If you use requirement for our CE in you JDL files please update your files. 21.4.2008	VOCE news prague_cesnet_lcg2 site (with CE skurut17.cesnet.cz) has been upgraded with following hardware components: - the old 25 skurut computing nodes (SGI 2xPIII with 1GB RAM and 8GB disk) were dismissed - instead we have now 10 Altix 310 servers. These are equipped with two quad core Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5365, 16GB RAM and two 500GB disks. - home directories capacity is now 4.8TB in total (upgraded from tens of GB) - there is a new storage element dpm1.egee.cesnet.cz with 6.4TB capacity dedicated for VOCE and 1.6TB for other VOs - the old storage element skurut18.cesnet.cz will be discarded on the 19th of May 2008. 18.1.2008	New disk space for home directories on VOCE UI a new disk space has been added to skurut4 (glite User Interface) and dedicated for user's home directories. /home is now a NFS volume with 4.8T space. User's data has been migrated to the volume. Old home directories are still accessible in /home_old. We kindly ask users to delete their unwanted files in /home_old. 11.1.2008	Turning off lcg RB RB (resource broker) service is no longer supported by gLite development team. Therefore our RB server (skurut3.cesnet.cz) will be turned off in near future. For users it means that commands with prefix edg-job-* will not work anymore. As a replacement please use similar commands with glite-wms- prefix. 10. 12. 2007	Extension of VOCE accounts Dear VOCE user, let me inform you about current effort that has been devoted to make VOCE environment more reliable and help us as VOCE administrators to gain more detailed information about research and scientific activities that are performed within VOCE environment. Recently, we have implemented a way of extension of VOCE accounts through a portal where you are expected to provide short text information about what have you used VOCE environment for and what are your nearest research plans concerning VOCE. This information will be used as a base for extension of your account as well as it will serve to derive aggregated information about scientific areas and user communities the VOCE resources are used for. As all VOCE account are now valid until the end of year 2007 we would kindly ask you to visit https://voce-register.farm.particle.cz/voce/extend.pl where you are expected to provide requested information. 4. 10. 2007	prague_cesnet_lcg2 cluster downtime Due to scheduled maintenance of the electric infratructure, most services provided by the prague_cesnet site will be unavailable on the 4th October. The downtime will start at 9:45 AM (CEST) and will last for several hours. Submission of new jobs will be postponed starting on 3rd October. 13:24 21.9.2007	WMS version 3.1 on skurut nodes. New WMS service version 3.1 has been added to the VOCE infrastructure. It is installed on skurut68-3.cesnet.cz. It brings better reliability, robustness and performance for submitting user. The commands used for operation of jobs from user interface skurut4.cesnet.cz has been changed as well. Instead of prefix glite- another prefix glite-wms- is now used. For example glite-job-submit is replaced with glite-wms-job-submit. The old way will work for some time (with warning) but we kindly ask users to switch to new commands and modify their scripts if needed.
